As wins piled up for San Miguel in the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup, the talk of an elimination round sweep also intensified.

But every time Beermen head coach Jorge Gallent was asked about it, the amiable mentor always played it down.

His answer had always been somewhere along the lines of “one step at a time” or “one game at a time.”

Now that final step is upon them, as the 10-0 Beermen tackle Meralco at 6:15 p.m. at the Batangas City Coliseum on Saturday, May 4.

The Richard Howell-reinforced TNT Tropang Texters were the last team to pull off such feat in the 2014 Commissioner’s Cup.

Though already assured of the twice-to-beat advantage, the Beermen are expected to go all out in hopes of entering the post eliminations play with a win — 11 straight wins to be exact. Dating back to the Commissioner's Cup Finals, San Miguel is currently on a 12-game winning streak, somehow the best in its storied franchise history.

But the Bolts do not want to be on the wrong end of history.

At 5-5, Meralco itself is fighting for dear life in the season-ending conference. A win would award the Bolts a playoff berth, while a loss could relegate them in a knockout for the last quarterfinal slot.

While the main game of the split penultimate playdate of the All-Filipino Conference has a lot at stake, Phoenix (3-7) and Blackwater (3-7) square off in the battle of also-ran squads.

Gametime is set at 3 p.m. at the Ynares Arena in Pasig City,
