It seems like building team chemistry is Gilas’ top priority.
Gilas Pilipinas will be the host team in the fast-approaching FIBA World Cup. On top of that, the Filipino hoopers will be in a tough group in the first round of the tourney. This August, they’ll be facing familiar foes in Italy, Angola, and the Dominican Republic—all of which have scored victories over Philippines the last time they met.
The pressure is immense and the opponents are strong in the global hoops summit. Gilas will be facing a daunting challenge, to say the least. That’s why the Philippine contingent is going all out in its buildup for FIBA’s flagship event. In trying to solidify the team chemistry within the national pool, the chosen ones were instructed to engage in an activity designed to sharpen the mind and fortify the bond among teammates.
On Monday night, scoring specialist Cjay Perez shared on Instagram what Gilas has been up to at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.
As the IG story suggests, the players were clustered into different sub-groups wherein they were tasked to solve some sort of puzzle that involved, strings, paper, and sticks.
Perez teamed up with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel superstar Scottie Thompson, and their squad looked pretty intense in trying to complete the mind-bending exercise.
Another group was led by of Ginebra big man Japeth Aguilar and Korean Basketball League standout Rhenz Abando. Their crew looked really into it as each member was laser-focused on deciphering the riddle in front of them.
As we know, Chot Reyes is not just a hoops tactician, but also a sought-after life coach and motivational speaker. This might be one of his tested and proven ways to build chemistry.
GIlas must indeed come together more than ever as one of its key players in Justin Brownlee has temporarily been sidelined due to health reasons.
