The versatile wingman has always been level-headed.
Wearing a black cap, orange-tinted sunglasses, and black headphones, Thirdy Ravena looked as calm as a clam as he had a brief chat with reporters prior to leaving for Estonia on Thursday evening.
His quiet facade belied the fact that he’s feeling excited about being part of the Gilas Pilipinas pool again in the lead-up to the FIBA World Cup.
He shared his thoughts on undergoing a training camp in Europe, including playing in a series of exhibition games, saying the trip will give them a chance to iron out the kinks, solidify their chemistry, and map out tactics.
He would probably be the first to admit that he’s got his work cut out for him in trying to make the final lineup. He hardly saw burn time in the latter windows of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, even getting cut from the final roster a few times.
Still, the former three-time UAAP Finals MVP, is steadfast in doing his job, whatever the outcome for him may be. He might not say it out loud, but for sure, he wants to crack the final 12. Who doesn’t? But even though he’s a fierce competitor, he’s always been a team player as well.
“It’s mixed emotions, actually. I’m nervous but I’m excited because hindi mo alam kung kailan [ulit] mangyayari ‘tong opportunity. So, I’m just trying to work my hardest to help the team, to help everyone to get better, ma-lineup ako o hindi,” said Ravena.
The 26-year-old wingman, who recently re-signed with San-en Neophoenix in the Japan B.League, said he’s not nursing any injuries, which should bode well for him in their training camp in Europe.
“Nagpapalakas lang ako and make sure na kondisyon ‘yung katawan ko for the all the running, all the conditioning that we’re gonna do in Europe,” said Ravena.
Well, that doesn’t sound too calm, ain't it?
