It’s a blow for the national team in its buildup for the FIBA World Cup.
Gilas Pilipinas has suffered a major blow as guard Scottie Thompson fractured his metacarpal during practice in Lithuania on Thursday.
One Sports correspondent Carlo Pamintuan reported the unfortunate development, adding that the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel ace “was brought to the hospital for an X-ray where the fracture was confirmed.”
Thompson missed Gilas' first tune-up game in Estonia due to back spasms, and his latest injury leaves the team with only one true point guard in Kiefer Ravena.
There’s no timetable yet for Thompson's return. Pamintuan said the reigning PBA MVP will consult with a hand specialist upon Gilas' arrival in Manila.
The national team is currently in Kaunas, Lithuania where it is figuring in a series of tune-up games as part of the buildup for the FIBA World Cup in August.
