Kai Sotto suffered a bad fall during Gilas Pilipinas' game against Georgia in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Kai Sotto will be a game time decision for Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament semifinals on Saturday against Brazil, team manager Richard del Rosario confirmed.
At least the 7-foot-2 Sotto is not in any danger after the bad fall suffered during the game against Georgia on Thursday night, as his X-rays and scans are negative for fractures.
"Sotto though still has soreness and is classified as a game time decision," reported Paolo del Rosario for One Sports.
Sotto, who was key in the Philippines' upset of Latvia, had to check out of the game against Georgia on Thursday night after only 11:49 minutes of action.
With Georgia up by 20 points in the middle of the second quarter, Justin Brownlee made a dish to Sotto in the paint.
Kaiju went up for a basket, but lost his momentum in the air when he was knocked underneath by Georgia's Joe Thomasson.
He was outbalanced and was inadvertedly kneed to the head by Goga Bitadze. Sotto seemingly landed on his own chest as they both fell to the floor.
Sotto was seen wincing and having his rib checked as he sat at the bench.
Georgia won the game, 96-94. But the point differential allowed Gilas Pilipinas to advance to the semifinals.
Coach Tim Cone confirmed Sotto was sent to the hospital to check his rib.
Gilas Pilipinas will take on Brazil in the FIBA OQT semifinals on July 6, 8:30 p.m. LIVE on One Sports, One Sports+, PBA Rush, RPTV, and the Pilipinas Live app.
