The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers are champions once again, as they completed a second straight perfect season after sweeping the Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates in Game 2 of the NCAA Season 98 women's volleyball tournament on Friday, 25-19, 25-11, 25-20.

Opposite spiker Gayle Pascual scored 15 points to lead the Lady Blazers in their matchup at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan. Outside hitter Jade Gentapa contributed 13 points.

Pascual, who was named Finals MVP, said they were determined to close the finals series out right there, instead of letting it extend to a deciding Game 3.

“Sabi ko po kay coach, tapusin na namin itong laban na ito para wala na kaming iisipin na next game, kaya aggressive ako pumalo,” said Pascual.

Benilde mentor Jerry Yee, who also won the Coach of the Year award, is just relieved that they were able to bring home another championship.

“Ang hirap ng competition ngayon, lahat nag-improve, so happy na nakuha pa rin namin,” said Yee.

The Lady Blazers' accomplishment in Season 98 is not just about winning the championship, as they also secured a remarkable 29-game winning streak in the NCAA, aided by their two undefeated seasons.

Earlier in the day, the NCAA also handed out the individual awards for the season.

Mary Rhose Dapol of University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas was hailed MVP and 1st Best Outside Spiker after leading her squad to an 8-1 win-loss record.

Her teammates, Shaila Omipon and Marian Tracy Andal, meanwhile, were named Rookie of the Year and Best Libero, respectively.

The aces of the champion team weren't left behind, as Gentapa won the 2nd Best Outside Spiker trophy, while Pascual took home the Best Opposite Spiker award.

LPU’s Venice Puzon and Janeth Tulang, on the other hand, were named Best Setter and 2nd Best Middle Blocker, respectively. Trina Marice Abay of Arellano University was the season's 1st Best Middle Blocker.
