The Filipinas have a whole arsenal.
The Philippine women’s national football team’s victory over Chinese Taipei in the second round of the AFC Olympic Qualifying Tournament proved the value of having a deep roster.
The Filipinas, who struggled to put the ball into the back of the net in the first 45 minutes, found their groove after fielding their substitutes in the second half.
The changes were made immediately after Chinese Taipei scored the opening goal of the match. Filipinas coach Mark Torcaso brought in Jacklyn Sawicki, who immediately brought back the tempo and control of the game to their side.
“I guess it's a little bit of a luxury to have someone like Jackie who came off the bench yesterday and impacted the game. It was really pleasing for us,” said Torcaso, who earlier said having a deep lineup is a "good headache."
In the latter part of the second half, he also brought in Quinley Quezada and Chandler McDaniel, who scored a goal and helped the Filipinas to the impressive 4-1 victory.
“There's no doubt bringing in players like those three in particular, who have some big-game experience, will definitely have an impact on the game,” said Torcaso.

The win over Chinese Taipei is just the first step in the Filipinas’ qualifying campaign for the 2024 Paris Olympics. They will next face a loaded Australian side, featuring star Sam Kerr.
But whatever the result of the tournament may be, Torcaso is confident with the selection of players for the national team.
“I can see us building on the next few years and being a very very successful team and hopefully pushing towards another (FIFA Women's) World Cup,” said Torcaso.
