It looks like some very wealth people in the Middle East are interested in the fight as well.
It wasn’t too long ago when Manny Pacquiao mentioned in an interview that he is open to fighting former super-welterweight world titleholder and ex-sparring partner Amir Khan.
And it appears the feeling is mutual.
It also looks like some very rich people are interested in making a Khan versus Pacquiao match—never mind that the two are arguably past their prime.
“Look, it’s a tough one because you get different things told to you,” Khan told British media outlet IFL TV. “(But) there is interest. Manny’s team wants it, (and) the Saudis want (the) fight in Abu Dhabi.
Khan is right on the dot at least in one sense: Different people say different things. But, in this case, it seems that what are being said—both from the Pacquiao camp and the Khan camp—are actually adding up.
Pacquiao is open to fighting Khan. Khan would love to fight Pacquiao. And the Saudis are willing to cough up money to make it happen, at least that’s what the British boxer is saying.
He also thinks that a Pacquiao-Khan fight would be huge—and that it is the right fight to get him locked in.
“It would be massive,” Khan pointed out. “A fight with Manny would definitely motivate (me). I think he would be perfect.”
Then again, this could all be Khan trying to do whatever to secure one big payday against a legend, especially given how badly he looked in his last fight against Kell Brook in a losing cause.
The Brit, though, is adamant things will be different in a fight against the Pacman.
“We sparred a lot, we know a lot about each other. My last fight against Kell wasn’t the best fight to finish. I feel I’m a lot better than that,” he said.
Whether this fight pushes through, though, is up in the air entirely—unless the Saudis can fork up enough money to make it happen.
