Alex Eala and her French partner Estelle Cascino pulled off an impressive upset against their top-seeded opponents to secure the doubles title at the W75 Croissy-Beaubourg ITF tournament in France.
Alex Eala and her French doubles partner Estelle Cascino, emerged victorious in the doubles competition of the W75 Croissy-Beaubourg International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament in France on Saturday, March 30.
Eala and Cascino clinched the championship after defeating the top-seeded duo of Jessika Ponchet from France, and Maia Lumsden from the United Kingdom with a score of 7-5, 7-6(4) in the Finals.
The Filipina tennis star celebrated her second ITF doubles title following her triumph at the W50 Pune in India last January, where she partnered with Darja Semenistaja of Latvia.
Cascino, meanwhile, marked her 23rd doubles victory, bolstering her standing as the 146th-ranked player in Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) doubles.
Before clinching the title, Eala and Cascino endured a tough opening match against Swiss Celine Naef and India's Prarthana G. Thombare, ultimately prevailing with a score of 5-7, 6-2, 10-6.
The duo then went on to secure decisive victories against Emily Appleton and Isabelle Haverlag, 6-4, 6-0, as well as against Kira Pavlova and Luxembourg’s Marie Weckerie, with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
The victory in the doubles competition provided some consolation for Eala's singles campaign, which ended in the second round with a defeat to Germany's Mona Barthel, with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
The win is also expected to elevate Eala's doubles ranking, currently at no. 305. Earlier this month, Eala reached as high as No. 278 in the rankings, indicating a promising trajectory in her doubles career.
