Alex Eala and Team Philippines successfully achieved promotion to Group II in the Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Zone after ruling the final in Group III against Laos, 2-0, in Manama, Bahrain over the weekend.

Eala, who made her debut in the tournament, highlighted the Philippines’ return to the competition after a three-year hiatus.

The 19-year-old provided the promotion-clinching win with a 6-1, 6-1 rout of Malaylack Delilah Parhummakuronen in the second singles.

Eala joined Marian Capadocia, Khim Iglupas, and Shaira Rivera. Long-time national team member Denise Dy was their coach.

“What a way to end my first Billie Jean King Cup experience, qualified for the next group up! So proud to be part of this amazing team,” Eala wrote on social media.

“Maraming salamat sa mga napakabait at bukas-palad na Pinoy dito sa Bahrain na nag-alaga sa amin ngayong linggo. Wala po akong masabi—ramdam na ramdam namin ang inyong all-out support.” she added.

The BJK Cup is the world’s premier team tennis competition for women. Just last week, their male counterparts also achieved promotion to Group IV in the Davis Cup.

Now, Eala moves on to her final tournament of the year in the W100 Dubai in the United Arab Emirates starting this week.
