Fit-again guard SJ Belangel comes out with his best performance yet in a Daegu KOGAS uniform in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
SJ Belangel continued on his hot streak since his return from injury as he dropped the hammer on the Seoul Thunders with 36 points in a 114-77 win for the Daegu KOGAS at the Jamsil Arena on Saturday.
Just his second game after an injury at the end of last year, Belangel unleashed a hot shooting game where he missed just five of 17 attempts to erase his previous career-high of 30 points — this is also the highest output of a Filipino import in the KBL so far.
Belangel drilled six three pointers en route to his 36-point outburst, where he also had a career-high in made field goals with 12. It was also a career-high performance for him in playmaking with eight assists.
He also had three rebounds and three steals in the rousing victory for KOGAS who have improved to 14-10 for the season.
Belangel’s performance not only ranks high among the KBL but also other Asian leagues as it is second to Matthew Wright’s 37 points as the highest-ever by a Filipino import in either the KBL or the B.LEAGUE.
Wright was still with the Kyoto Hannaryz during his career-high performance last season.
Elsewhere in the KBL, Migs Oczon had seven points and two rebounds for the Hyundai Mobis Phoebus in their 85-64 win over the Changwon LG Sakers.
Oczon made the most of his 12 minutes on the floor, helping the Phoebus win their fourth game in a row and improved to 18-7.
Changwon, who are missing the services of Filipino import Carl Tamayo due to injury are losers of back-to-back games and skidded to 13-12.
