Carl Tamayo and SJ Belangel emerge as winners in the KBL's weekend slate of games.
Carl Tamayo tallied a double-double as the Changwon LG Sakers extended their win streak to four at the expense of the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus, 71-68, at the Changwon Gymnasium in the 2024-25 KBL season on Saturday.
Tamayo, who has been on a roll recently for Changwon, finished with 12 points and 10 boards in Changwon’s escape act as the LG Sakers scored the last five points of the game, recovering from a fourth-quarter deficit against Ulsan.
Ulsan was ahead, 65-61, midway through the fourth salvo before Changwon unleashed a 10-3 run to finish off with the win.
Seong-Hyun Jeon also had 12 points while Darryl Monroe had eight markers, 12 boards, three assists and a steal to connive for the victory that improved Changwon to 19-13 for the season.
Meanwhile, the Mobis Phoebus are on a three-game slump and are at 20-11 — second in the standings with Changwon hot on their heels.
Migs Oczon hardly had an impact in the losing effort for Ulsan with two points, one rebound, and two assists in 13 minutes of play.
Elsewhere, SJ Belangel’s Daegu KOGAS added on to the woes of Kevin Quiambao’s Goyang Sono SkyGunners, 76-56, at the Goyang Gymnasium.
Belangel had trouble on his shooting going 1-of-7 to finish with six points, three rebounds, and three assists in the win where Lee Dae-Heon shone the brightest for Daegu with 26 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and three steals.
Daegu is winner of back-to-back games and is now at 18-13.
Meanwhile, Goyang, still missing Quiambao due to injury, has lost two in a row for a 10-22 record. The Skygunners are 9th in the league so far.
In the other game, Juan Gomez de Liaño saw limited minutes to finish with one point, one rebound, and one assist in four minutes of play as the Seoul SK Knights fell to the KCC Egis, 89-72.
Seoul saw its 10-game win streak snapped but remain at the top of the standings with a 25-7 mark.
