Popeyes meme kid may have finally cashed in on his popularity

Popeyes meme kid may have finally cashed in on his popularity

His name is not the “Popeyes Kid.” He is Dieunerst Collin.

He had gone viral in 2013 after Vine user TheRealSnoopy published the video "Terio At Popeyes.”  A young Collin was at a Popeyes standing next to a pair of garbage bins and was caught giving side-eyed glances at the camera.

His funny look has since been used for memes all around the world.

But what many didn’t know is that Collins is a collegiate football player. He plays for Lake Erie College.

In December 2021, Collin and the East Orange High School football team bagged a state championship. The 18-year-old then posted an image of the original meme beside a photo of him holding the championship cup.

Recently, Collin posted on Instagram and Twitter asking for help in contacting Popeyes.

Why?

Well, he is now a college football player, and thus he can sign sponsorship deals on his own terms.

After a platoon of netizens tagged Popeyes, the fast food chain likely saw his post, and then tweeted this:

Front Office Sports, a media company based in New York, reports that Collin has signed a name, image, and likeness (NIL) deal with the kitchen chain. While that is encouraging, fans need to see Popeyes go beyond this "Let's get this bread(ing)" tweet and seal this deal.

We are waiting.
