Filipina-Ivorian fencer Maxine Esteban feels nothing but gratitude for her first time at the Olympics.
Stepping onto the Olympic stage for the first time is a moment Filipina-Ivorian fencer Maxine Esteban worked so tirelessly for, and seeing her live this dream is beyond inspiring.
Even with the tough loss against hometown bet Pauline Ranvier of France, 15-7, she faced each bout with unwavering grace and determination.
“It feels so amazing, sobrang ganda ng place. And finally, it comes to this day. Sobrang happy that I’m here,” Esteban told One Sports.
Representing Ivory Coast on this global platform was a profound honor, but she hasn’t forgotten the love and support from her Filipino fans.
“I’m grateful to everyone who’s still supporting me and who still believes in me. I will continue to do my best and hope to make the country proud,” she added.
After the Olympics, the 23-year-old fencer will take a break and will soon suit up for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
