The PBA's all-time marksmen will make up a fantasy contest, along with a prolific scorer and a little-known reserve who might just pull off an upset.
The great thing about the PBA Three-Point Shootout is that it routinely pits the league’s top marksmen. Consider 2018, for instance, when the likes of James Yap, Stanley Pringle, Matthew Wright, Paul Lee, and Marcio Lassiter competed for the crown.
Now, that’s a fantasy three-point lineup already (Yap won, BTW), but it falls just short of the “ultimate” status—not if the following six shooters, in their primes, can battle it out for the title.
Allan Caidic
He is the Triggerman, and he won the inaugural PBA Three-Point Shootout in 1992. He is widely acknowledged as the best Filipino shooter ever. Need we say more?
Jimmy Alapag
The all-time leader in made triples with 1,401 is a two-time winner of the event. The Mighty Mouse also has that clutch gene, which he’ll surely activate given the superstars he’ll be facing here.
LA Tenorio
The PBA’s Iron Man has evolved into one the league’s premier snipers, moving to third all-time in triples made. He has a set shot style that would serve him well in this battle of marksmen.
James Yap
A two-time winner of the PBA Three-Point Shootout like Alapag, Big Game James brings both firepower and star power to this competition. His form may be unorthodox, but man, can he shoot.
Terrence Romeo
The Bro is a prolific shooter, and he has always done well in the PBA Three-Point Shootout. In fact, he won the competition in back-to-back fashion in 2015 and 2016—making him one of only seven repeat winners in history.
Mark Macapagal
Macapagal is the least known player in this ultimate contest. But he has a case for being the best to ever do it in PBA Three-Point Shootout history, having won it four times—in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014. Can’t sleep on that success.
So, who wins?
