Despite inroads to acceptance, mental health has by and large remained taboo—a subject so deeply personal many still refuse to talk about it, largely due to the stigma associated with doing so.

“Nag-iinarte lang ‘yan.”

“Weak…”

“Man up!”

These are but the familiar refrains people often get when they attempt to open up about their inner demons.

And that is why most choose to just stay silent, even if deep down inside, they are struggling already.

That is why it is refreshing and encouraging to see athletes talk about mental health and their own struggles with it. Boxing superstar Ryan Garcia did it just a few days ago, sharing a powerful tweet about mental health and the misconceptions surrounding it.

Then, on Thursday evening, the PBA’s resident sage, Kelly Williams, took to Facebook and Twitter to share his own powerful message on mental health—and how he keeps himself grounded and aligned despite turbulent times in his life.

“June is mens’ mental health month. I didn’t know until recent,” Williams wrote. “There’ve been some challenges, this month particularly. But one thing that’s always helped me reset and realign with my self is handiwork. I love DIY projects. Even if I end up f’ing something up.”

Perhaps to prove his point, Williams posted a short before-and-after video of his latest DIY project: his own home gym. And, safe to say, he didn’t end up f’ing this handiwork.

Take a look:

Williams, of course, had previously opened up about his mental health struggles, from his insecurities to his struggles with finding self-love and everything in between.

The 41-year-old 8-time PBA champion has persevered through it all. And he has a moving, powerful message for those going through their own battles.

“If you’re going through rn, stay strong & ever seeking. Times pass.🙏🏼💪🏼,” Williams wrote further. “And btw… Small change. Big difference. Love it.”

Take it from Machine Gun Kelly himself. He’s been through a lot.
