The six-time PBA MVP liked what he saw from Sotto in the NBA Summer League.
Count June Mar Fajardo among supporters who were elated to witness Kai Sotto see action in the recently-concluded NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
The 7-foot-3 Sotto made his much-awaited debut in Orlando Magic’s 88-71 loss to the Portland Trailblazers, churning out 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
“Masaya ako na nakalaro siya,” the San Miguel Beermen franchise player told One Sports.
This was followed up by an underwhelming game against the Boston Celtics that saw him leave the game with back issues. He tallied 2 rebounds, and assist, a block, and a couple of turnovers in 8 minutes of action.
Despite that, Sotto remained positive.
Some fans, though, were disappointed in how things panned out for Sotto. But not the six-time PBA MVP.
If given more minutes, Fajardo added, Sotto could have had a better showing.
“Maganda naman ‘yung pinakita niya dun. Kung mahaba lang minutes niya, makaka-produce pa siya ng magandang numbers,” he said of Sotto, who needs to outgrow being shy on the court according to Alaska Aces legend Sean Chambers.
There’s no doubt in Fajardo’s mind Kaiju will make it to the NBA soon.
