Terrence Romeo was dazzling as usual when the San Miguel Beermen defeated the Meralco Bolts for their first win in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

But he didn’t dazzle for long.

The FEU Tamaraws product scored nine points in the first half but sat out the rest of the game.

Thankfully for SMB nation, the other guys stepped up, such as veteran Chris Ross, who came up clutch, and reinforcement Ivan Aska, who ended up as the game’s best player.

Still, fans of San Miguel and TR7 couldn't help but wonder what’s really going on with the three-time PBA scoring champion. After the game, coach Jorge Gallent cleared the air on Romeo’s status, at least to a certain degree.

“Last game against NLEX (Road Warriors), I think in the middle of the third (quarter), he felt something sa knee niya. Now, despite all of that, Terrence still played (against Meralco). I’m grateful for him that he still played,” Gallent said.

Romeo top-scored with 28 points for the Beermen, who let one slip by against NLEX.

Whenever there’s a knee issue, precaution always takes precedence. It’s easy to understand why Gallent and Romeo himself decided not to take the risk in the second half.

“He just had limited minutes because even he told me about it (knee pain). He would just try to play as hard as he could, which he did. Sa halftime, he just said na he’ll just rest because it might get worse,” Gallent disclosed.

Pressed about his level of concern, considering one of his top bucket-getters is hurt, Gallent responded with confidence.

“When players are injured, the others should step up,” he said.

Romeo will have extra time to rest before the Beermen take on the Converge FIberXers this Saturday in Tiaong, Quezon.
