Fans couldn’t help but feel hyped as the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel finally activated LA Tenorio.
Eight months ago, Tenorio announced he had to press pause on a decorated career due to colon cancer.
Now the GINeral looks ready to lace up and help the Gin Kings sustain their impressive play so far in the ongoing PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
But before that, let’s look back at the amazing things Tinyente has achieved during his break. Safe to say, he’s been really busy.
Beat Cancer
The PBA’s Iron Man had to take a sabbatical from basketball after being diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer last March.
After a six-month long battle that saw him get chemotherapy sessions in Singapore, he was finally cancer-free. Fans, teammates, and rivals alike couldn’t help but feel overjoyed.
This was perhaps the biggest win in his life.
Won Asian Games gold
Given little time to prepare for the Asian Games, coach Tim Cone brought someone very familiar with his system to help expedite the familiarization process.
Enter Tenorio.
In a previous interview, Tenorio explained his role was to “fill in the gaps” and help Gilas players better understand the plays within the plays. And that worked wonders as the team went on to capture the country’s first gold medal in 61 years.
Honed other skills
Like most players here and abroad, it looks like Tenorio has also find solace in playing golf.
After beating cancer, Tenorio was seen playing golf with his celebrity pals Daniel Padilla and Zanjo Marudo. Padilla himself shared Instagram story of the three of the in a golf course together.

Stayed in basketball shape
As early as October, Tenorio reportedly joined Ginebra’s drills. As part of the Gilas coaching staff, he also participated in drills to improve his fitness.
While it’s not clear when exactly he will make his comeback, this recent development suggests it’s sooner rather than later.
