In a brief ceremony ushering in the second half between the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the San Miguel Beermen, Gabe Norwood walked towards the center stage to receive a much-deserved recognition.

Norwood joined the PBA 5,000-point club and became the 92nd local to reach that mark.

The longest tenured Elasto Painter raised his plaque at center court accompanied by his wife and three kids at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

That proved to be one of the few highlights for the Elasto Painters, who rode the crest of a six-game winning streak entering the playoffs.

They saw that run cut short, though, as the Beermen ran away with a 127-122 win to nail the second semifinals berth in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Since getting drafted first by the Welcoat Dragons in 2008, the 38-year-old cager has won two championships with the Rain or Shine franchise.

Though he was known more for being a defensive lynchpin with the Elasto Painters, as well as the Gilas Pilipinas, he has made the playoffs 10 times and the Mythical Second Team in 2009.
