At the peak of his powers, James Yap was one of the faces of the PBA. You can argue he was actually the face of the whole league.

While most known for his time with the Purefoods franchise, where he won his two MVPs and Grand Slam, the second half of Yap’s career was spent with Rain or Shine, where he has been an Elasto Painter since 2016.

But that time comes to an end, with Yap announcing his decision to part ways with the Elasto Painters. With this significant career move, past and present PBA players immediately sent out their congratulatory messages to the former PBA MVP.

Among those was Yap’s former teammate in Purefoods in Marc Pingris, who even hinted at a possible team for the 41-year-old James.

“James Yap is James Yap! Welcome to the club, ride soon bro! Welcome sa PBA Moto Club,” wrote Pingris, referring to the PBA Motoclub that includes many retired PBA stars.

Some of Yap’s teammates in Rain or Shine also bid their farewell to their longtime teammate.

“My childhood idol! byaan man ko nimo manong, anyway, thank you sa 7 years nga nagkauban ta manong daghan kay ko natun’an sa imo. Forever grateful kaayo nga na teammate tika manong,” said Rey Nambatac.

“Respect! Was an honor being your teammate. More power to you brother,” wrote Gabe Norwood.

Maverick Ahanmisi, a former Elasto Painter, also commented on Yap’s post to wish him good luck on his next move.

“Was an honor to be your teammate James! Hell of a career, good luck to life after hoops,” said Ahanmisi.

While it’s still unsure whether Yap has decided to retire from basketball or not, what's clear is that his legacy has forever been cemented in PBA and Philippine basketball history.
