PBA Philippine Cup Finals MVP Chris Newsome and Miss Universe Philippines - Quezon City Cam Lagmay open up about love and success.
With two people highly dedicated to their careers, love can often seem like a challenge reserved for the brave-hearted.
However, this particular relationship works because, as the Meralco Bolts put it, both parties believe.
One Sports caught up with new PBA champion and Finals MVP Chris Newsome, and Miss Universe PH Quezon City Cam Lagmay, as both opened up about the joys and struggles of dating between their hectic schedules.
For Newsome, who recently clinched his first PBA championship with a historic Philippine Cup win with the Meralco Bolts, the thrill of victory was boosted by the presence of his girlfriend in Cam.
In the euphoria of Meralco's victory, Newsome still searched the crowd for Lagmay, and their post-game moment painted a picture of love and shared success.
This may have been the best PBA Kiss Cam of Season 48.
"The hardest part about dating a beauty queen? Time," Newsome confessed, highlighting a sentiment familiar to many in relationships where careers demand constant attention.
"She’s busy doing a lot of things for herself and for the pageants. For me, it’s just the time that we normally would spend together that we don’t really get as much."
Despite the challenges, Newsome stresses the pride he feels seeing Lagmay excel in beauty pageants.
"Seeing her do the things that she works so hard for... those moments, it makes me really proud to be able to see her on stage, and for me to be the one cheering for her."
Lagmay, on the other hand, reflected on the mutual inspiration they draw from each other's work.
"It’s really amazing all the hard work that he puts in behind the scenes," the beauty queen shared.
"The inspiration and the motivation that we exchange, and always the positive energy."
Their relationship, though tested by time and busy schedules, finds solace in the small moments of being together.
Lagmay highlighted the importance of physical care despite their busy lives. "Of course, exhaustion is always part of the picture, but it's always good to get those massages, get those recovery stretches in together as well."
The public display of affection during Newsome's winning moment with the Meralco Bolts in the Philippine Cup Finals is proof of the couple’s strong bond.
"Congrats, love. You did it! Love, you did it!” Lagmay told Newsome after their kiss.
Love often takes a backseat to ambition, but Chris Newsome and Cam Lagmay's journey serves as a reminder that with patience, understanding, and support, relationships can still flourish.
As Lagmay poetically puts it, "whatever goes on in the darkness, always comes to light.”
This sentiment resonates with Newsome's reflection that "seeing how it all manifested for her has been a truly beautiful thing."
It is safe to say that theirs is a love illuminated by mutual respect, admiration, and commitment to both personal and shared victories.
