Robert Jaworski Sr. paid homage to the millons of Ginebra fans when he was handed the Lifetime Achievement Award during the 30th PBA Press Corps Awards on Tuesday, September 24.

His son, Robert “Dodot” Jaworksi Jr. received the recognition in his stead.

In a speech read by the younger Jaworski, the PBA legend gave the 'Barangay' the ultimate compliment.

“I want to extend a special thanks to the fans who have supported me through the years,” he said.

“Your passion, energy, and unwavering loyalty have been a constant source of inspiration. You are the heart and soul of Philippine basketball and I will forever be grateful for you love and support.”

Jaworski first endeared himself to basketball fans in the early years of the PBA when he played for Toyota.

But his name would completely be sown into the Philippine basketball lore when he steered Ginebra to countless comeback victories in the latter part of his playing career.

Hence, the 'Never Say Die' mantra that lives on to this day.

“The Never Say Die spirit that we embraced at Ginebra is a testament to the resilience and determination that determines and defines us as Filipinos,” the former playing coach said.

In the same speech, the 78-year-old expressed his gratitude to everyone who had been part of his illustrious basketball journey.

“Reflecting on my career, I’m truly grateful for the opportunities I have had and the people who have supported me. From my early days with Toyota, to my years with Brgy. Ginebra, my journey in the PBA has been extraordinary to say the least,” he said.

He added: “In closing, I’m deeply honored for this great honor. It is a reminder of the incredible journey I’ve had and the enduring impact of bball on all our lives. Let us continue to celebrate the sport we love to inspire the next generation to dream big and persevere. I will continue to carry this legacy with me for the rest of my days.”
