Veteran PBA import Justin Brownlee falls one short of a 50-piece as Ginebra rebounded against Terrafirma in the Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup.
Justin Brownlee continued to be the old reliable for Ginebra as he erupted for 49 points to anchor Ginebra's bounce-back win against Terrafirma, 114-98, in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Malate on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Brownlee, who ended up with a double-double as he also tallied 12 rebounds, was key for the Gin Kings' thwarting of the pesky Dyip that just would not go away.
Hungry for its first win of the conference, Terrafirma continued to push even late into the fourth quarter as it rallied from as much as 22 points down.
Paced by former Gin King Stanley Pringle and Vic Manuel, Terrafirma continued to chip at Ginebra’s lead as it got to within six, 93-99, after a Vic Manuel bucket with 4:26 left in the game.
But a 7-0 blitz by the Gin Kings created distance for them anew, 106-94, at the 3:11 mark.
RJ Abarrientos and Troy Rosario backstopped Brownlee’s scoring outburst with their 18 and 17 markers, respectively. Meanwhile, Scottie Thompson had an all-around game of eight points, four rebounds, eight assists and a block.
Brandon Walton-Edwards, top scored for the Dyip with 27 points he spiked with 12 rebounds.
Manuel and Pringle chipped in 19 and 11 markers, respectively.
Ginebra thus rebounded from its first loss against Eastern for a 3-1 slate. Terrafirma, meanwhile, remained winless in six outings.
