Converge pulled away from Phoenix late in the fourth quarter to secure its second straight and fourth win overall in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup.
Converge logged its second straight win after pulling away from Phoenix, 116-105, in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Malate on Thursday, Dec. 19.
The FiberXers overcame a blazing start from import Donovan Smith and the Fuel Masters, who zoomed to a 2-20 lead.
Despite this, Converge showed its composure as they slowly but surely trimmed the huge deficit to single digits before finally taking a 69-67 advantage in the third quarter after two free throws by Bryan Santos.
By the end of the frame, the Fiberxers already took a seven-point lead courtesy of a buzzer-beater by Justine Baltazar.
Phoenix, however, would not go away that easily after cutting the lead to just a single point at 94-95 with 6:07 left in the game.
But Baltazar and Alec Stockton would join forces for a 9-0 run to give Converge a comfortable lead once more, which would eventually lead to the victory.
Jordan Heading was hailed the Player of the Game with 21 points, three rebounds, six assists and five steals.
With the win, Converge improved to a 4-2 record, while Phoenix failed to sustain its huge victory against erstwhile unbeaten leader NorthPort the last time out to slip anew to 1-5.
