Meralco's twice-to-beat hopes remain alive in PBA Commissioner’s Cup, deals NorthPort second loss

The Meralco Bolts scored back-to-back wins in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup after frustrating the league-leading NorthPort Batang Pier, 111-94, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila on Tuesday, January 14.

After building a double-digit lead in the second quarter, the Bolts continued to push ahead in the second half to deal the Batang Pier’s second loss in the conference.

With the win, Meralco moved to a 6-3 record, tied with Eastern and the Converge FiberXers. NorthPort, meanwhile, dropped to 7-2 which is still first in the standings.

Chris Banchero spearheaded the charge for the Bolts with a conference-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field, to go along with four rebounds and six assists.

Meralco will go for its third straight win on Saturday, January 18 when they face the San Miguel Beermen in Candon City, Ilocos Sur.
