What sibling rivalry? There’s none with sister EJ, says Eya Laure

Having an equally good sibling can be a curse—especially for a family of athletes.

Good thing Eya Laure cannot relate. That’s because she’s never felt in competition with her older sister EJ, herself a former UST Golden Tigress like Eya.

There are comparisons, Eya admitted to Noli Eala in the latter’s Power and Play podcast. But an actual rivalry? Hardly.

“Since mag-volleyball po kasi kami, meron na laging comparison,” Eya told Eala. “Kahit nga nung nagba-basketball kami meron na talaga.”

But for the Laure sisters, that’s just about it. In fact, they pull each other up—and they’ve been doing so since like forever.

“Ang maganda kasi sa ‘min ni Ate EJ, hindi namin pinapa-feel sa isa’t isa ‘yung rivals kami. Sabay namin inaangat mga sarili namin,” Eya explained. “‘Pag sa training, alam namin may lapses kami, nanjan kami to remind each other… ‘Yung mga ganung bagay hindi para hilahin ka pababa. Alam namin sa sarili namin na para ‘yun maging better kami and mas mag-grow pa kami.”

That dynamic appears to be working quite well for the Laure sisters, who are arguably two of the top volleybelles in the country today—EJ at the pro level and Eya at the collegiate ranks.

Now, the younger Laure is taking her act to the pro league as well, and she’ll have a familiar face showing her the ropes.

“As a kakampi, siyempre anjan lagi si Ate to guide me and, of course, anjan din siya to support me sa kung ano ‘yung gagawin ko.”

With Ate EJ by her side, it’s not hard to envision Eya making a big impact for the Chery Tiggo Crossovers right away.
