The reconnection between the former college teammates embodies the team’s scorching play at the moment.
Coming up with two destructive straight-sets wins in as many games, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans have been carving out an impressive, undefeated performance in the PVL Invitational Conference so far.
One of the reasons behind the Flying Titans' early success is the addition of the former UST Golden Tigresses superstar Sisi Rondina.
According to Rondina’s former UST teammate and current Choco Mucho opposite hitter Caitlin Viray, the arrival of the 5-foot-6 dynamo to the team has brought nothing but positive energy, much like during their playing days in the UAAP.
“Parang bumabalik lang ‘yung memories sa UST na si Ate Si pa rin ‘yung pinakamaingay,” Viray quipped before reporters after Choco Mucho’s victory over the Foton Tornadoes on Saturday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
“Kahit sa training, siya ‘yung unang nagsasalita, nag-iingay. ‘Yung energy niya laging nandoon. Some things never change,” the 23-year-old spiker added.
Aside from being a vocal leader, Rondina has been leading by example for the Flying Titans. The Cherry Bomb rendered explosive performances in her first two games, resulting in back-to-back Player of the Game nods. The Cebuana ace, however, was quick to recognize the flourishing play, not of herself but her teammate Caitlin, who has proven to be a revelation with her improved showing this conference.
“Masaya ako na sa team ng Choco Mucho siya (Viray) nag-grow. I mean, makikita mo na talaga ‘yung lebel ng nilalaro niya,” Rondina said.
Sisi, Caitlin and the rest of the Flying Titans will try to make it three wins in a row on July 11 as they take on the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers.
