The HD Spikers only hope to get better as they aim for an even better finish next conference.
Gel Cayuna couldn’t stress enough the importance of getting a podium finish in the PVL Invitational Conference after failing to achieve the said feat in the previous one.
To say that the HD Spikers were hell-bent on climbing up the ladder is an understatement.
But with Jovelyn Gonzaga back in the fold after her beach volleyball campaign, the HD Spikers were able to do just that on Sunday, beating the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18 in the bronze-medal match.
“Bago mag start liga na 'to sobrang dami naming natutunan last conference. Tinrabaho namin para makarating dito,” said Cayuna, who had 30 excellent sets to go with 3 service aces.
But the road to this moment was no cakewalk.
In Sunday’s game at the Philsports Arena, the Cargo Movers made things tough for the HD Spikers even without top gunner Kim Dy, who is nursing a right knee injury.
That’s why there’s a different sense of fulfilment in reaching this milestone again for Cayuna and the HD Spikers.
“Sobrang importante sa ’min ng panalo na ‘to kasi matagal namin ‘to pinaghandaan,” Cayuna said. “Bago dumating dito, grabe ‘yung hirap na pinagdaanan namin, parang butas ng karayom.”
Cignal only hopes to get better as it will shoot for a higher goal next conference.
