They can’t afford to relax against the hard-fighting Foxies.
The Cignal HD Spikers were heavily favored coming into their showdown with the winless Farm Fresh Foxies.
But after dropping the second set, the HD Spikers got a dose of reality: Nothing is ever going to be easy, not in the PVL. They also knew right then and there that they needed to step it up against the young but always gritty and fighting Foxies, who earned some high praise last time around from the Creamline Cool Smashers no less.
The HD Spikers were tested all right, and they needed to respond. And they did just that.
The result was a 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-17 win over the Foxies in the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference on Saturday.
Riri Meneses, who finished with 16 points built on 13 attacks, said the HD Spikers simply refused to relax and just gave it their all.
“Hindi kami papayag na umuwi kaming talo. Kaya pumukpok talaga kami,” said Meneses.
True enough, the HD Spikers turned things around after that second set setback. They were so in-form after that, in fact, that they only needed 22 minutes to dispose of their foes in the fourth set, where they erased an 11-13 deficit with a 14-4 outburst to win the game.
With the victory, the HD Spikers improved to a 3-2 win-loss record while Farm Fresh remained winless in six games in the conference.
Cignal will go for win no. 4 on November 7 versus the Galeries Tower Highrisers at the Philsports Arena. Farm Fresh will shoot for its breakthrough win on the same day in the same venue against the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers.
