Both wanted it so badly, but only one could win.
In a cardiac match that saw two of the most prolific scorers in the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference engage in a shootout, it was Chery Tiggo Crossovers star Eya Laure who prevailed.
Laure dropped four of Chery Tiggo's last five points on the way to a hard-fought 17-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-22,16-14 win against the Cignal HD Spikers on Tuesday.
It was a duel between the former UST Golden Tigress and PVL Invitational Conference MVP Ces Molina in the final moments of the match, to the delight of the crowd at PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
Eventually, Laure got the last laugh and the streaking Crossovers went on to chalk up their fifth straight win for a 7-1 record.
The HD Spikers, on the other hand, saw their five-game winning streak come to an end and dropped to 6-3.
After the match, Laure said their week-long break did wonders for them.
“Kung ano lagi tine-training namin, for the past 11 days or more than one week, chinerish namin ‘yun. Nag-recover kami at pinaghandaan mga susunod na games,” she said.
She also made sure to mention the screaming fans who egged them on when the going got tough.
“Grabe ‘yung hiyawan. Alam namin ano feeling ng maraming nagchi-cheer. Nakaka-motivate, parang 'di ka mapapagod,” said Laure.
“Siyempre itong panalo na ‘to hindi pa kami dapat maging complacent. Kasi may susunod pang mga games,” she added.
The Crossovers will be hell-bent on extending their winning streak when they take on the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers on Saturday.
