The Creamline Cool Smashers are on an absolute tear.

In a PVL Invitational Conference Finals rematch, Creamline finally got one back from Japan’s Kurashiki Ablaze, taking a fiery 25-22, 25-22, 26-28, 25-21 win Sunday at the MOA Arena.

Fresh from their conquest of the Reinforced Conference, the Cool Smashers moved to 2-0 in the Invitationals, joining local rival Cignal as the only two undefeated teams in the season-ending joust.

Meanwhile, the Ablaze suffer their first PVL loss ever. Kurashiki went a perfect 6-0 to win the title last year, including two wins against Creamline.

The Japanese squad opened their PVL title defense with back-to-back wins.

Erica Staunton led the way for the Cool Smashers with 21 points, while the ever-reliable Michele Gumabao added 19.

PVL Reinforced Conference double MVP Bernadeth Pons was good for 13 points, 13 digs, and 21 receptions for another triple-double.

For Kurashiki, Saya Taniguchi fired 14 points in a losing effort.
