Kianna Dy is on the mend.

The star hitter is on the brink of her much-anticipated return to the court with the PLDT High Speed Hitters, hoping to see action in the upcoming 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

After more than a year of rehabbing from her right knee injury, Kianna is steadily making her way back to full strength, looking to finally debut for PLDT after signing with the team in the previous PVL offseason.

While the road has been tough, Dy has remained optimistic and determined, crediting both her support system and her own perseverance for helping her through what has been a grueling recovery process.

In this first edition of Off the Record, Dy shared her journey to recovery with One Sports, opening up about the emotional and physical toll it has taken, and emphasizing the importance of patience as she navigates her return to the sport.

One Sports: What has the whole recovery process been like throughout this past year?

Kianna: It’s been more than a year of conditioning and rehab, and it hasn’t been easy emotionally, mentally, and physically, but we’re getting there.

I’m slowly integrating myself in training and we don’t want to rush things because the last time we did, I had to take more months off, so this time, we’re planning things better.

One Sports: What percentage would you say you’re at with your recovery?

Kianna: I’d say mga 85 percent.

One Sports: How did you stay patient throughout the entire recovery process?

Kianna: How do I be patient? Well, I haven’t been patient. I mean, it’s hard because this is the longest I haven’t been playing. Nakaka-miss when I see my teammates playing and it’s like when am I gonna play?

But I mean, it’s all part of the process and I can’t rush things because baka mas lalo maging masama ‘yung injury. Now, we’re just taking it step by step.

(Kianna has not played since the semifinals of the 2023 PVL Invitational Conference)

One Sports: How big of a help was it that PLDT remained patient as well with your entire recovery?

Kianna: Super thankful sa PLDT management, coaches. They’ve been very patient with me and never have they pressured me saying na you have to play na, never. They just want me to be at my 100 percent. They’re part of why I’m patient with myself also because they’re patient with me.
