The Cignal HD Spikers’ undefeated run in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference came to an end after four games.

Amid their hot start, the HD Spikers found their match in the Petro Gazz Angels, falling in straight sets, 19-25, 21-25, 18-25, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Saturday, December 14.

But despite their first blemish in the extended conference, Cignal star Vanie Gandler remains upbeat about her team’s bounce back come 2025.

“Of course, we're not happy about the loss, but we're still happy with our standing and it's still far from over. So this Christmas, we're going to regroup and next year, [go] back to work,” Gandler told reporters after the match.

The 24-year-old spiker finished with nine points and seven excellent digs in the loss, which dropped Cignal to second place.

With most of their wins coming in sweeps or four-set victories, Gandler bared the lessons they picked up from their relative lackluster performance against the Angels.

“Overall, I think our connection today was a bit messy, but we're glad that we saw what we need to work on, which is a lot,” said Gandler. “Individually, like me, my offense, and our connection with the pattern, the blocking pattern, the deep floor defense.”

Cignal will continue its preparations during the Christmas break, and the HD Spikers will look to bounce back in their first match back against the Galeries Tower Highrisers on January 18.

“There's a lot to look forward to in 2025. We still have six more games,” said Gandler. “We still have a lot of chances to make it to the next round. Of course, we're looking forward to the opportunity that we have and the opportunity right now is still very big.”
