UAAP shows iron fist, suspends three referees after

The UAAP has imposed a three-week suspension on three referees due to their “subpar” officiating in the UAAP Season 86 basketball games.

The three referees had below-par ratings on the Referee Game Report Card, which quantitatively assesses their performance during UAAP basketball matches.

New UAAP Season 86 Basketball Commissioner Xavier Nunag, who previously stressed the need to have ‘competent, fit’ referees, reiterated the league’s unwavering commitment to providing professional referees in its games.

"We take our responsibility of supplying capable and professional referees to the league very seriously, and it is imperative that all officials uphold the utmost standards of honesty and precision,” Nunag said in a statement.

“The suspension is an opportunity for the referees to reflect on their conduct and enhance their performance,” he added.

Nunag also reassured fans, teams, and the basketball community about their efforts to find suitable replacement referees during the suspension.

“We will continue to monitor all referees' performance using concrete data to ensure the highest standards are upheld,” said Nunag.
