Top-notch threads: Grading UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball jerseys

Estetik.

That’s what the younger generations call something pleasing to the eyes. It’s also the standard we used to grade the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball jerseys.

While they don’t really boost player performance, jerseys make these hoopers stand out on the court.

Let’s evaluate each university’s kits.

Top-notch

NU Bulldogs

The Bulldogs made a minor change in their jerseys this season, but it made a big difference.

From a general admission seat, the only thing that would stand out was the National University on the nameplate. If one would take a closer look, the lining on the side would give one Greek Mythology vibes.

Will the Bulldogs, considered the most experienced among teams, end up at the basketball Pantheon this year?

UE Red Warriors

UE didn’t overdo its jersey designs this time. It went for simplicity and it was spot on.

And yes, there’s beauty in simplicity. This new Red Warriors thread looked classy in every sense of the word.

Good job, Anta!

Adamson Falcons

Adamson made the switch the previous year, and its jerseys remain pleasing to the eyes.

Agree?

Passing mark

UP Fighting Maroons

Nothing much has changed for the Fighting Maroons.

The font remained the same save for its color, with its away jersey featuring the “Unibersidad ng Pilipinas” in white.

The tribal design in the side panel is now gone. It’s still clean and aesthetically pleasing.

FEU Tamaraws

Now this one’s new.

Make no mistake about it, they’re not bad. But it would take longtime FEU fans a while to get used to this fresh green-and-gold thread which is a shade lighter than normal.

UST Growling Tigers

Perhaps the only thing that stood out was the Petron logo above the classic UST on the chest plate.

That logo meant hope for the beleaguered Tigers, who are in rebuilding mode since new coach Pido Jarencio returned to Espana in the hopes of regaining the proud university’s winning ways.

They’re not there yet, but with Jarencio at the helm and Petron’s backing, the sky is the limit for the Growling Tigers.

Ateneo Blue Eagles and La Salle Green Archers

Nothing really changed.

But there’s more to the jersey than meets the eye, right?
