After their first game in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament, De La Salle University made a rather important move toward enhancing athletic performance.
The DLSU Lady Spikers embraced the utilization of armband fitness biometric trackers. These cutting-edge devices have become integral tools in optimizing the team's recovery, performance, and overall health monitoring.
Reigning Rookie-MVP Angel Canino expressed her enthusiasm regarding adopting this innovative technology, emphasizing how the introduction of these bands marked a significant step forward in their journey toward peak performance and well-being.
“We're really happy on it kasi before na binigay sa amin parang inintroduce na nila na, 'Oh we will give you this band na makaka-[tulong] ng recovery niyo and kung ano kailangan na tulong 'yung kailangan niyo para maka-perform,” Canino told One Sports.

Upon receiving the trackers, Canino and the rest of the Lady Spikers were delighted with the possibilities they offered.
The 5-foot-11 outside hitter highlighted the comprehensive features of the accompanying app, which serves as the central hub for monitoring various aspects crucial to athletic performance.
“‘Yung app niya mismo, dun kami nagba-base. Basically, 'yung sleep, 'yung recovery mo, and kung hanggang saan lang kaya ng katawan mo. 'Yung performance mo, kung anong gusto mong performance every day magba-base dun,” Canino pointed out.
Currently, a range of in-game monitoring bands from different brands are also seeing use in professional American sports leagues such as the NBA, NFL, and MLB.
Indeed, integrating these biometric trackers has revolutionized how the Lady Spikers approach their training and preparation.
By meticulously monitoring key metrics such as sleep quality, recovery rates, and physical performance, the team can make informed decisions to optimize their training regimens and maximize their potential on the court.

“Parang nakakatuwa lang kasi lahat parang namomonitor niya and isang malaking tulong din 'yun para sa aming mga athletes 'yung health monitoring talaga,” said Canino.
