After weeks of searching and speculation, the De La Salle University Green Archers have named Topex Robinson as the team’s new head coach.

Robinson parted ways with the PBA’s Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters about a week ago, fueling speculations that he was among the frontrunners to replace Derrick Pumaren. The 48-year-old tactician, who spent five years coaching the Phoenix franchise, will now be tasked to bring the Green Archers back to UAAP hoops prominence, especially after a tough Season 85.

The Green Archers failed to make the Final Four last season despite having a talented roster built around Evan Nelle, Schonny Winston, Kevin Quiambao, and Michael Phillips. And this failure may have led to DLSU’s search for a new coach.

It appears the Green Archers got one in Robinson, who coached in the collegiate ranks before taking his act to the PBA. Robinson initially served as head coach of the San Sebastian College-Recoletos for three seasons before taking coaching duties at Lyceum, also in the NCAA.

Now, Robinson will have to rebuild a once-storied basketball program, this time in the UAAP.
