Gilas just couldn’t handle Qatar’s length and strength.
After making the semifinals of the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup last year, the men's 3x3 team of Gilas Pilipinas finished this year's edition 0-2, bowing out of the tourney in Singapore after their 21-18 loss to Qatar on Friday.
Gilas struggled mightily from the field as they were hounded by Qatar’s length.
They mounted a strong rally late in the game as they tied the score at 18-all, climbing from a 15-8 deficit.
However, Qatar’s Souley Ndour scored the last three baskets including the game-clinching free throw to knock out Gilas from the tournament.
Despite the size disadvantage, Almond Vosotros led Gilas with 9 points. Samboy De Leon contributed 5 points, while Jorey Napoles and Brandon Bates added 4 markers combined.
Earlier in the day, Gilas already lost to Iran, 14-11, which made the game against Qatar a must-win to move past the group stage.
