The two have developed a new hobby, and it’s helping save the environment.
In between tune-up games and strolling, June Mar Fajardo and Japeth Aguilar have developed a new habit in their Gilas Pilipinas training camp in Europe.
Collect plastic bottles.
In his latest vlog on YouTube, Fajardo showed a luggage full of plastic bottles they kept during the course of their stay in Kaunas, Lithuania where they had a series of friendlies.
The roomies had those bottles exchanged in what looked like a vending machine inside the supermarket and earned 1.70 euros for 17 pieces. The Gilas twin towers then used the money to buy yogurt and sweets.
“Pag matiyaga ka makakain ka talaga, 'di ka magugutom,” said Fajardo, who did the same thing with his BFF in Estonia.
The 6-foot-10 gentle giant wished something similar should be done in the Philippines, where proper waste disposal is a perennial problem.
“Dapat may ganito sa Pinas e,” he said.
Aguilar agreed. This way, he added, people could help the preserve the environment.
“Dapat 'wag itapon mga bote,” he said. “Nakatulong pa tayo sa environment.”
In the Philippines, though, one could sell recyclables like plastic bottles to junk shops.
