Gilas Pilipinas will face a daunting task to open the FIBA World Cup in August as the Dominican Republic releases its extended roster filled with NBA players led by three-time NBA All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns.

Boston Celtics veteran and five-time All-Star Al Holford is also set to join the squad that also features Sacramento Kings’ Chris Duarte and Lester Quinones from the Golden State Warriors.

Gilas Pilipinas will have to play their A-game when they open their FIBA World Cup campaign against this Dominican Republic side on August 25.

The Philippine national team will parade Jordan Clarkson in the tournament after getting the commitment from the Utah Jazz guard.

Gilas will need the services of Kai Sotto to help June Mar Fajardo and Japeth Aguilar counter what will be a problem brought by Towns and Horford.

Team Pilipinas is set to fly to China on the first week of August for their final pocket tournament before the FIBA World Cup.
