In fairness, The King of Comedy gave some great advice.
Remember that time when the late great Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr., better known as “Dolphy,” gave ex-Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes and his team a brief, to-the-point pep talk after a game?
Probably not.
So, it’s a good thing the internet never forgets. Yes, the internet NEVER forgets.
In fact, it unearthed that very same pep talk that happened way back in the 1990s, when Coach Chot was still in his 30s and Dolphy, a.k.a. Pidol, was still a spry septuagenarian.
But no, it didn’t happen in real life. Instead, it happened in reel life, in one episode of the hit TV sitcom Home Along Da Riles (go ahead, Google it!) that also featured the inimitable sports color commentator Sev Sarmenta and a handful of PBA players back in the day.
It's a must-see clip, and you can watch it for yourself here:
Curiously, in what seems like a bit of foreshadowing, The King of Comedy alluded to the importance of fighting spirit—something Reyes emphasized many years later as the coach of Gilas Pilipinas and via the now infamous “Puso!” battle cry.
At the time of publishing, the 32-second clip from Dolphy’s show had already garnered over 300,000 views, some 4,000 reactions, and over 200 comments.
