Tank Davis makes a case as the new face of American boxing today.
Moments before the much-awaited bout between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, boxing legend Manny Pacquiao dropped by the fighters’ locker rooms.
Interestingly, it appeared the former eight-division world champion gave Garcia advice heading into the fight.
“You have to use your reach advantage. You have to maximize your advantage,” Pacquiao told the 5-foot-10 Garcia, who had the Filipino at number 4 in his top five boxers of all time.
The 24-year-old pugilist also showed the Pacman some love in this video posted by Pacquiao on Instagram on Sunday.
“Thank you for coming. I appreciate it. I look up to you,” he said.
Unfortunately, Garcia wasn’t able to do as the Pacman told him.
While he came out as the aggressor ala Pacquiao, things went downhill after that.
In the second round, Davis gave the sellout crowd of over 20,000 a preview of what was to come by sending Garcia to the canvas with a cracking left hook that landed flush on King Ryan.
Five rounds later, the 28-year-old dubbed “Tank” wrapped things up with a vicious shot to the ribs to rise to an immaculate 29-0 record, including 27 KOs. In the process, Davis made a strong case as the new face of American boxing today.
After the match, there was no animosity whatsoever between the two competitors.
