Swish found out his impact lasts generations.
They say to never meet your heroes. One kid though seemed to handle it just fine.
Germany and Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki was one of the must-see stars during the FIBA World Cup draw that happened in the Philippines on April 29. The players' representative to the FIBA Central Board also met someone very special on the blue carpet.
That was the young Dirk Carlisle de Jesus, named after the Mavericks baller as well as the team coach Rick Carlisle. In the FIBA video, Nowitzki was seen welcoming the kid at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and giving him a hug before posing for a photo. The 2002 FIBA World Cup MVP then mussed his hair before raising his hand for a high five.
Check out this heartwarming encounter.
The kid though played it all cool, as shared on Facebook.
"How are you?" Nowitzki was quoted as asking.
"I'm good," the young fan said. "We have the same name!"
"That's cool," Nowitzki replied.
Nowitzki seemed to relish the Philippine experience, tweeting about the hospitality and talked about returning for the FIBA World Cup in August.
