Ethan Alvano, who played for Jimmy Alapag with Alab Pilipinas, forced overtime with a tough fallaway jumper, and then assisted on the game-winner as the no. 1 Wonju DB Promy win a wild one in the KBL.
There’s a new scoring leader when it comes to Filipino Asia Quota Players.
Fil-Am guard Ethan Alvano set a new career-high, leading his no. 1 Wonju DB Promy to a tough 86-84 overtime win over the Goyang Sono Skygunners Sunday in KBL action.
Playing the hero, Alvano forced overtime by intentionally missing a free throw, grabbing his own rebound, and then drilling a tough fallaway jumper.
In the extra period, Alvano pushed the pace off a DB Promy stop and then assisted Park Inwoong for the game-winner.
Alvano scored 33 points and dished out 12 assists in the victory, both career-highs.
His 33 points are now also the most by a Filipino Asian Quota Player in both Korea and Japan, beating the 31 of Matthew Wright for Kyoto Hannaryz earlier this season.
Alvano, who played for the Jimmy Alapag-coached San Miguel Alab Pilipinas in the ABL, made a significant jump in his second season in the KBL.
The 27-year-old guard is averaging 15.9 points, 6.7 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game, a key contributor for Wonju, the clear favorites for this year’s KBL championship.
With a 40-13 record, the Promy are already the KBL regular season champions and the franchise will certainly push for their first title since 2008 in the playoffs.
