World No. 3 pole vaulter EJ Obiena was joined by girlfriend Caroline Joyeux in a fun interview with One PH.
In a special episode of One PH’s Sa Totoo Lang, viewers were treated to an exclusive TV appearance featuring Filipino Olympic vaulter EJ Obiena, giving more insight to one of the more popular members of the Philippine Centennial Team that saw action at Paris 2024.
But the spotlight wasn’t solely on EJ, as Obiena shared it with someone he holds dear in his heart: his girlfriend, Caroline Joyeux.
It was Caroline’s first time on television, and German triple jumper did not disappoint in sharing her unique perspective on the local athlete we’ve all come to admire.
EJ Obiena has become more than just an athlete; he's now dubbed the Boyfriend ng Bayan. When asked how he feels about this new title, Obiena couldn’t help but laugh.
“I’m surprised, I don’t know how to feel about that,” he shared.
“Sa akin po personally, walang nagbago; parang madalas confused ang mga tao sa’kin—‘I think I know that guy,’” Obiena added.
It seems our beloved pole vaulter is still getting used to the idea that he’s recognized not just for his athletic prowess but also for his charm.
But it’s all in good fun, and Obiena takes it with his signature humility and humor.
EJ’s reaction to his much-talked-about Vogue pictorial was also noteworthy.

“There was a lot of work that they put into that,” he noted, giving us a glimpse of the effort behind the glamorous photos.
The excitement ramped up as Caroline Joyeux joined the conversation, sharing the charming story of how she and EJ met.
“We met in training camp; he came to me when I was in a bake shop,” Caroline reminisced.
But EJ had his own twist to the tale, revealing an “epic fail” moment.
“Nag-offer ako ng ride tapos mas mabilis pa pala lakarin.”
Caroline found the moment endearing, adding, “I found it cute.” And just like that, the nation’s boyfriend won more hearts with his down-to-earth personality.
When asked what they admire most about each other, the couple’s answers were nothing short of touching.
Caroline loves the duality in EJ: “He has two [different] sides, both are helpful in life; one is wise and second is he’s just like a kid and brings light to the life.”
As for EJ, he simply said, “She makes me wanna do better.”
