Kai Sotto's career-high rebounds not enough as Alphas drop home opener to Ryukyu

Kai Sotto delivered a strong bounce-back performance for the Koshigaya Alphas, posting his first double-double of the season with 18 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.

However, his effort wasn’t enough to lift the Alphas, as they fell 65-87 to the Ryukyu Golden Kings in their home opener, dropping to 0-3 for the 2024-25 B.LEAGUE season.

After a slow start to the season, Sotto seemingly has found his rhythm, dominating the boards and providing a much-needed spark for Koshigaya.

His 15 rebounds surpassed his previous career-best of 14, which he achieved last season with Yokohama.

Despite his standout performance, the Alphas struggled to contain Ryukyu’s balanced attack, led by Keve Aluma with 20 points.

Tim Soares led Koshigaya with 22 points, while Jeff Gibbs contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Still, the Alphas were unable to mount a challenge against the Golden Kings, who led by as many as 31 points in the game.

As Koshigaya searches for its first win in the B1, Sotto’s resurgence offers a promising sign for the games ahead, which will include a rematch against Ryukyu Sunday.
