In his third year in the KBL, SJ Belangel could be ready to take the "leap" with the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus.
SJ Belangel continues to make waves in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
The former Gilas Pilipinas cager marked his third year in the league with a new milestone after scoring his 1,100th point on Friday, November 1, during the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus’ 80-58 win against Busan KCC Egis.
Belangel, now in his third year in the KBL, finished the match with 19 points and eight assists, pushing Daegu to a 4-1 record tied for first in the standings with Seoul SK Knights and Goyang Sono Skygunners.
Five games into the new KBL season, the 25-year-old Pinoy point guard has been averaging 16.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists in over 27 minutes of action.
Belangel’s scoring average is 10th among all scorers in the league.
Currently, Belangel is also shooting 50.0 percent from the floor, 44.4 percent on 3-pointers and 95.0 percent on free throws, possibly going for the rare 50-40-90 club.
This is a vast improvement from his first year as a pro where the former Ateneo Blue Eagles star averaged 7.02 points, 2.04 assists, and 1.92 rebounds in 52 games.
With Belangel having standout performances, a return to the KBL playoffs could finally be in play for Daegu, especially with former PBA import Andrew Nicholson leading the team as well.
