Kyla Kingsu, PLDT’s Kianna Dy, and Enchong Dee dive into the fast-paced world of pickleball—sharing what makes it so fun and why they gave it a shot.
Pickleball is not just a sport; it's a fast-growing global phenomenon that combines the best parts of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong—and it’s sweeping the world by storm.
At a recent event hosted by UNIQLO held in Met Park Sports Center, athletes and newcomers alike came together to discover the thrill of this dynamic game.
It also highlighted the brand's latest sport utility wear collection, designed to support an active lifestyle.
The event, which featured a fun and social environment, allowed participants to try pickleball firsthand.
Kyla Kingsu, a courtside reporter, shares how her mom has embraced the sport.
“My mom has really fallen in love with this sport and she plays almost every day. Lalo ngayon na I’m really inspired kay Alex Eala pero hindi ko pa kayang mag-tennis kaya pickleball muna,” Kyla shared to One Sports.
While Kyla Kingsu’s mom has already embraced the sport, it didn’t take long for PLDT High Speed Hitters' Kim Kianna Dy to find the same excitement.
“For me, it’s exciting because it’s a different sport besides volleyball. It’s actually close to volleyball. And it’s really fun because you’re not playing alone, you’re playing with a partner so it’s fun,” Kianna said.
Just like volleyball, pickleball emphasizes teamwork, which made the experience all the more enjoyable for her and her partner.
For Enchong Dee, an actor and fitness enthusiast, the sport is not just fun—it’s also a great way to stay in shape.
“I just make sure that every day, I sweat, every day I make sure that my heart rates up, parang ‘yon ‘yong regalo ko sa sarili ko every day.” This commitment to his physical health is one of the main reasons he enjoys pickleball. The sport offers an excellent cardiovascular workout while still being fun and social.
For anyone new to the game, Billy Arceo, pickleball coach, offers some encouraging words:
“Kahit wala kayong background [or] any experience sa sports, do it and game on.”
Pickleball’s simplicity makes it a sport that can be enjoyed by players of all ages—from kids to seniors—making it a great way to spend time with family and friends while staying fit.
The sport’s growing popularity worldwide shows that it's more than just a passing trend; it’s a movement towards active living and social connection.
So why not grab a paddle and join the movement? Who knows, it might just become your new favorite game.
