Carl Tamayo atoned for a sub-par series opener with a big performance in Game 2, anchoring the no. 2 Changwon LG Sakers to another close win over Ulsan in the KBL semifinals.
Only one win separates Carl Tamayo from his first KBL Finals appearance.
Tamayo atoned for a sup-bar performance in series opener, firing 22 points in Changwon LG Sakers’ 84-75 victory over the Ulsan Mobis Hyundai Phoebus in Game 2 of the semifinals Saturday, taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-5.
The Gilas Pilipinas forward added five rebounds and shot an efficient 10-for-17 from the field in 28 minutes of play.
It was a much better performance than his seven-point production in Game 1, although Changwon still escaped with a tight 67-64 win.
The LG Sakers overcame a slow start and outscored Ulsan, 46-31, in the middle quarters to move just one win away from their first Finals appearance since the 2013-14 season.
Assem Marei led the LG Sakers in scoring with 24 points.
Game 3 is set for Monday, April 28 (PH time), with Tamayo and the LG Sakers aiming to complete the sweep and punch their ticket back to the KBL's biggest stage.
